BIG STEP/WRTP

AGC of Greater Milwaukee has been a leader in developing strong workforce development initiatives and continues to work aggressively to address the workforce needs of the construction industry. Through AGC of Greater Milwaukee's leadership and participant funding of the BIG STEP program (Building Industry Group Skilled Trades Employment Program), Milwaukee's construction industry has access to a pool of skilled and trained workers who are ready to meet the demands of their trades. This pre-apprenticeship program provides the preparation for entering a construction apprenticeship program.

The AGC of Greater Milwaukee is also a founding member and participant funder of the Construction Labor Management Council of Southeast Wisconsin (CLMC). One of the primary purposes of the CLMC is to promote workforce development throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Through its governance on the CLMC board, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee continues to take a strong role in promoting workforce development initiatives throughout the region.

Additionally, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee works closely with and supports all of our local Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees including: bricklayers, carpenters, cement masons, painters, electricians, glaziers, heat & frost insulators, ironworkers, operating engineers, plasterers, plumbers, roofers, sheetmetal workers, sprinkler fitters, steamfitters and tile and terrazzo layers.

In addition to supporting pre-apprenticeship and the skilled trades, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee continues to provide a solid base of support to future construction management professionals through scholarships at several local colleges and universities. These scholarships are available to students attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Detailed information on our scholarship programs is available here.

Along with its extensive involvement with the BIG STEP program, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee is actively involved in other community-based construction career programs. Through its involvement with the Red Cat Construction Career Academy at Bayview High School and its participation in numerous area career fairs, the AGC of Greater Milwaukee is giving middle and high school students the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and gain access to information on how to begin a career in construction.
