On February 23, 2001, the Associated General
Contractors of Greater Milwaukee and the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA area offices including
Appleton, Eau Claire, Madison and Milwaukee) met to discuss a
partnership charter that mutually recognized the importance of
providing a safe and healthful work environment in the
construction industry in addition to formalizing a long
standing relationship between our two organizations. To
advance our mutual goal, we strongly agreed on the need to
develop a working relationship that creates mutual trust and
respect for the respective roles of each organization in the
construction safety process. It was agreed upon that the
Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) partnership
agreement developed by the AGC of America would be the basis
for our local agreement.
This new Partnership was developed to
accomplish the following:
A. Reduce, by 3% annually, the number of
injuries, illnesses, and fatalities affecting participant
employers, with an emphasis on reducing injuries and
fatalities resulting from those hazards that are the four
leading causes of death on construction sites (falls,
struck-by, caught in/between and electrocutions).
B. Increase the number of general and
specialty contractors who implement effective safety and
health programs and provide effective safety and health
training for management, supervisors and employees.
C. Recognize those contractors with exemplary
safety and health programs and effective site-specific safety
and health plans.
D. Promote open lines of communication between
OSHA and the AGC in pursuit of safety.
At this time, only Corporate General
Contractor members are allowed to participate in the
Partnership program. The following members are currently
participating at these respective levels:
-
5-Star Level
-
4-Star Level
-
3-Star Level
